Planting Flower Garden Bulbs
Planting garden bulbs is a great way to add color to your garden or landscape, they come back every year with out replanting and multiply. Don't be intimidated by planting and caring for bulbs.
Most bulb plants are actually rather hardy and planting garden bulbs is quite easy. All it takes is a bit of planning and being able to follow the package directions for planting flower garden bulbs. As the way of nature, planting garden bulbs will really put in an effort to bloom so unless you don't follow the package directions or plant to deep or upside down you should have blooms.
Again the most important thing to planting flower garden bulbs and having great blooms is read the directions on the package. This will tell you how deep to plant the bulbs. This is very important because every bulb like to be planted at a different depth. When planting flower garden bulbs the rule is the bigger the bulb the deeper to plant. Usually you will find the direction telling you to plant three times or four times as deep as the bulbs height. Another thing is to dig out a large enough hole, you want to be able to add a good compost and organic matter when planting flower garden bulbs. Always plant with the pointy end up, sometimes it is hard to tell but try your best. Most bulbs will still come up if planted upside down but will take longer to bloom, but not always so try to plant pointy side up.
If you buy your bulbs ahead of time keep in a cool place till you are ready to plant. Don't remove them from the package, or you might get mixed up on which bulb is which because so many look alike.
When planting flower garden bulbs plant in full sun in soil that has been prepared for good drainage by adding sand, peat moss, or other organic materials. It is always a good idea to draw out a garden plan before buying your bulbs, so you will no how many and of what type and color, also bloom times so you will always have blooms in the garden or yard. Again preparing the soil ahead of time is important for planting flower garden bulbs, loosen the soil add a good compost or other organic material. Don't add fertilizer this can harm the roots, the plant will feed off the bulb to start. Place the bulb in the hole at the right depth and cover with soil, pack down lightly water thoroughly.
Planting flower garden bulbs it is important to plant taller bulbs in back and shorter ones in front, if your garden can be seen from all sides plant taller bulbs in the center, and remember the plants only bloom for a few short weeks, so plant for spring, early and late summer, and fall so you will have blooms throw the whole growing season.
